Plunkz
Episode 06
For the 6th episode of Abracadaba Radio, I'm super happy to host my dear friend Augustin a.k.a Plunkz.
Augustin Mizon, my studio roomie, a talented French guy residing in Montreal, has been a really great friend since we connected on YouTube. I'm thrilled to witness how his channel continues to evolve over time.
Augustin's YouTube channel showcases meticulously crafted edits and an incredible array of hidden gems he has collected over the years. As a resident DJ at one of my favorite party series in the city, Sunday Service, his exceptional mixing skills and eclectic music selection effortlessly transport listeners into his magical universe.
1. Musical Background:
Firstly, how are you today?
I’m really good and really pleased to release this podcast on your channel, thank you for the invite!
Can you talk about your musical background? When did you start to mix?
I played a few instruments as a kid but stopped when I started doing teenage stuff lol
But music always stayed with me and I collected rock and rap albums on my ipod classic. I went to sound engineering school where I discovered post-production and sound design, which became my profession. On the side I started mixing with a school friend and neighbor in his bedroom, who only had vinyl decks with timecodes. So I started practicing for long hours at his place with my usb key. When I moved to Montreal I started to over-buy records and bought my first cheap turntables. That’s why I’m here today !
What’s your relation with vinyls?
Vinyl is a good stress reliever for me, I really like that it's something not connected to a screen. It also satisfies my nerdish collecting habits.
Do you remember what was the first vinyl you owned?
What are your plans for the next months? Any highlight?
I’m taking a small step back from digging record to prepare my wedding which is really soon, but will continue to upload music on YouTube.
Apart of this, just enjoying summer and life!
Sunday Service is one of the most well-organized party serie in the city, with a crazy attention to details. Can you please share how important it is for you?

The project began with the intention of offering something different from the classic clubbing night, a daytime party with the focus on quality drinks, food and of course music and sound system. I'm lucky enough to be playing, but all credit goes to Sarah and Eva for their organization and attention to detail!
Where are your favorite places to find new records? Mostly discogs, sometimes some shops in the city but I’m definitely more a nerd than a dusty finger.
You edit a lot of the records you buy. Why do you feel the need? And when did you start to do so?
At first I thought it was a shame to not play some music because I didn't like a few bars or a voice, for example. So I basically started to cut those parts or bad vocals. I find the work really cool and fast, as I’m doing audio editing everydays! It’s also nice to have a library of exclusive takes!
You should give a listen to this one ;)
The set:The cover is inspired by the set. It is magical, melancholic, and takes us on a journey. A journey to be taken by day or by night, but one thing is certain, you will remember it.

When and where did you record this mix?
During a cool day early this summer when I felt it! At our shared studio ;)

How did you select the tracks that you included?
This mix is the result of a long process. I started putting aside some of my fav records, hadn’t played them for a year and waited to complete the puzzle of atmospheric, breaky music. I think it's my most accomplished podcast yet!
Is there a concept to this mix?
No concept, only records that are really close to my heart with a kind of melancholic atmosphere all along.
